Understanding Transitional Housing
The phrase "transitional housing" was defined by the federal government program, the Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD). It defines a 2 year project that facilitates the movement of homeless individuals and families to permanent housing. Our residents come to us from a variety of homeless situations, often from emergency & domestic violence shelters, recovery centers and other crisis facilities.
Marguerite's Place offers ten furnished apartments for homeless women
with children. We offer the following services to families in our
program:
-
Assistance in obtaining & managing financial support
-
Placement in job-training programs
-
Community involvement with local employers
-
Collaboration with medical, dental & psychological agencies
-
Referrals and support in securing permanent, affordable housing
A Productive Lifestyle
There is so much more to understand about what "transition" really means for our families. Once a family moves into Marguerite's Place, moms begin an active and
productive lifestyle where they are required to work or attend school.
Marguerite's Place supports this effort by providing a safe living
environment, transportation access, on-site daycare for children and
caring compassion for the challenges of single parenting. Additionally,
women work with an individual case manager to establish support and
long-term resources, gain life skills that include personal finance
training and household management. Women set goals for a positive
future where gainful employment and permanent housing are consistent
pieces of a meaningful life.
